New Forecasting System Boosted at Cal Tech Conference

Pasadena California June 11 a new weather forecasting system called the air mass analysis method gains attention at a four day conference. Developed by Caltech and MIT and backed by Roosevelt’s science advisory board it uses mass air movements temperatures and related data. Proponents say regular stratosphere data could yield near perfect short and long term forecasts. Participants include W R Gregg head of the US Weather Bureau and Robert A Millikan.

County Meeting Called on Relief by CSTO User Group

A county wide meeting of the Constructive Standardization movement for unemployed has been called for Wednesday night at 8 pm in Daum's Little Hall. General Chairman E A Anderson said the gathering aims to discuss relief matters.

Heymann Transferred Back To Huron Office HL 3

Heymann traveling agent for Chicago and North Western railway at Mankato Minnesota has been transferred to Huron to replace D W Anderson who becomes traveling agent at Rapid City. Heymann was cashier at the freight depot before moving to Minnesota. Anderson came to Huron two years ago from Sycamore Illinois.

Lift Planting Ban On Rented Acreage

Washington reports the farm administration lifts all restrictions on government rented acres due to drought and need to boost livestock feed. Farmers may plant any forage crops on government rented land except corn and grain sorghums. The policy applies nationwide to all states with the sole exception of the two prohibited crops.

Emil Loriks of Arlington, president of the South Dakota Farmers Union, spoke at District 3 session in St Lawrence. He outlined Farm Holiday work in the state as Ed Everson, national president, planned to attend but canceled due to illness. Loriks will speak at the annual Farm Union picnic next Saturday. Supply decreases in grain markets followed with wheat down 2,276,000 bushels and corn down 1,866,000.

Plane Missing From Newark Found Burned In Catskills

Gas Transported To Strato Camp For Balloon Flight

South Dakota National Guardsmen moved 1500 cylinders of hydrogen in 40 trucks to a bowel lay site near Rapid City for the National Geographic Society air corps stratosphere flight. Capt. A W Stevens will install instruments in the gondola while Major William A Kepner pilots the balloon. Thomas W McKnew of the society travels to Rapid City to join the expedition with favorable weather awaited.

Mrs W A Funnell Dies Here Sunday

Mrs W A Funnell 50 of Wessington died in a Huron hospital after six weeks illness. Born Gayle M Graver February 20 18M in St Ansgar Iowa she married W A Funnell February 20 1907. They lived in St Ansgar Leola Litchfield and settled in Wessington in 1916. Surviving husband a son Lyle six sisters and one brother. Funeral 2 30 pm at Community Church Wessington Rev J H Black in charge. Body to Huron Tuesday for services Wednesday in St Ansgar burial. Mrs Funnell was Methodist and Mason.
