Charities Board Verdict Appealed in South Dakota Case
Miller of Plankinton filed an appeal Monday from a ruling dismissing criminal actions against three members of the state board of charities and corrections. The defendants, including Chairman J. F. Halladay and Secretary race Crill, were found guilty of a felony by an Aurora County jury for sending a Plankinton Training School girl to the state hospital without a hearing. The appeal contends the lower court erred in arresting judgment and acquitting the defendants, arguing the trial was fair and that the substitute judge lacked jurisdiction.
