Publicity Issue On Taxes Argued
Washington June 3. House members debated the desirability of making public all information from the forthcoming Congressional inquiry into tax dodging. An amendment sought to shield tax return data from public release, described by Chairman O'Connor as a deterrent to publicity, while some representatives urged openness. The measure would not bar open hearing disclosure of names and methods of wealthy evaders. The rules committee also voted to defer authorization for the investigating panel to continue or hand over work to Treasury officials.
