Seeded pastures yield most in lamb weight gain study
Seeded pastures produced the highest lamb weight gains in spring grazing trials at Archer Field Station near Cheyenne Wyoming from April 16 to June. Fairway crested wheatgrass seeded pastures led with 111 pounds per acre, followed by standard crested wheatgrass at 102. Mixed crested and western wheatgrass with Russian wild rye yielded 75.16 pounds per acre, while native pasture averaged much lower. These trials mark the first year of the study, conducted by University of Wyoming in cooperation with Soil Conservation Service, noting that moisture conditions boosted yields across all pastures.
