Expect Bigger Railroad Use from Northwest Freight
Northwest Shippers Advisory Board reports forecast freight car requirements for northwest states to rise 15 percent in the third quarter of 1936 over the same period in 1935. Despite declines in agricultural shipments, gains in agricultural implements, ore, cement, fertilizers, livestock, fresh fruit, and paper products suggest higher car needs than last year. Wallace, director of equipment research for the Association of American Railroads, told Minnesota, Dakota, and Montana delegates that rail improvements are advancing and the industry is rapidly adopting proven modern technologies.
