Black Hills Fires Under Control In Wyoming Area

Rapid City reports that the worst forest fire in the Black Hills is under control with smoldering patches and smoke still visible. A large crew watches burned territory from Rapid City toward Hill City as showers aid efforts. Damage is mainly to timber across about 15 000 acres with one barn destroyed and few injuries. Fire fronts remain active but officers anticipate full extinguishment soon.

May Use Coal Mine for Relief in South Dakota

After a conference with Governor Werren Green J W Parmley of Ipswich a member of the state coal mine commission said the state owned mine may be used this winter to aid drought and grasshopper affected areas of South Dakota Plans for operating the mine in a relief capacity have not been formulated but Parmley believes the mine can aid the needy Action on a definite program will wait until after the committee of 22 meets at Huron next week to consider relief measures The state has a coal mine with millions of tons of splendid coal and it looks like the opportunity is here for it to be of real service to the people of South Dakota Parmley said

Barn Fire Destroys Stockyards Buildings in Huron

Fire at the North Huron stockyards destroyed eight barns and several sheds with damage around ten thousand dollars. The Clarke property housed road equipment and cattle losses were minimal. a calf perished.
