Life Of Blister Beetle Study At South Dakota College
Brookings July 23 Special The complex life cycle of blister beetles is studied at South Dakota State College as an insect invasion damages crops. Entomologist George S. Gilbertson notes 40 species vary in size and color from quarter inch to over an inch. Larvae prey on grasshopper eggs but adults damage potatoes and legumes. A suggested control mix of hematite, flour, and lime is advised, to be dusted on attacked plants on a dry day. Blisters are laying eggs and remain a pest this season.
