Creeping Jenny Control: Two Rotations Proposed by S D State College
South Dakota State College agronomy researchers Dr. A N Hume and Clifford J Fanzke report two rotation methods to curb creeping jenny field bindweed. In moist areas, winter rye followed by sorghum or sudan and selective tillage reduces infestation 75 to 80 percent within two years at low cost. In drier regions, winter rye with a duckfoot cultivator and fall plowing, followed by smother crops, also suppresses the weed. The approach aims to keep bindweed under control with ongoing rotations and smother crops rather than costly chemicals.
