Farmers Retain Machinery For Emergency Adjustment
Secretary Henry A. Wallace told the 30th annual American Institute of Cooperation meeting that farmers must keep the present emergency adjustment machinery until foreign markets reopen. He warned of a slow return to international trade and suggested a planned middle course for agriculture with annual admission of about 200 million dollars in goods. He said repeal of the act would remove relief and that opponents would first attack minor provisions like tax elimination. In Kansas City, grain leaders urged continuing the department’s acreage reduction program citing drought risk and small carryover fears, noting a winter wheat crop much smaller than the 1927–1931 norm.
