Helen of Arkansas Aims to Die in Note Then Kept at Large
Frank Martin the guard of a condemned prisoner killed Helen at a roadblock after she fled a wire fenced prison and later confessed to killing Jim Bohois. The coroner exonerated Martin who was an inmate serving 21 years for murder. The note on her note said she would never be taken alive and was written on a magazine rejection slip.

Girl Slayer Is Killed By Guard
Helen Spence Eaton, 21, once convicted of murder and known as a dangerous escapee, was fatally shot by a guard two hours after fleeing the women’s prison farm in Jacksonville Arkansas. The guard fired as Eaton allegedly reached into her blouse for a pistol after her escape attempt. Eaton had previously escaped prison four times.

Third Party Move Is Launched Here
A South Dakota reform group launches a third party effort led by the Farmer Labor Economic Federation. Independent candidates will be named at a Huron July 19 convention with delegates elected July 7.
