Crumbling Forest City Plays Huge Role In Potter County
Gettysburg reports Forest City once a vital ford on the Missouri River, a hub for fur traders, military expeditions, and settlers. The town, moved downriver in 1889, saw steamboat traffic, a violent Rome Glover case, and a shifting Sioux frontier before decline as homesteaders arrived and residents fled. The Shaw House survives as a lone landmark.
