Pierre January 26 Governor Tom Berry urged mortgage holders in South Dakota to avoid foreclosures where possible especially on delinquencies from the past two years. He called on northwest governors to aid recovery and help distressed farmers and ranchers stabilize finances amid crop losses and falling prices.
Des Moines Jan 26 The senate committee on emergency legislation aims for quick passage of farm mortgage relief bills as the general assembly begins. One bill would delay filing an answer in foreclosure for 18 months, another increases exempted head of farm family allowances by 300 dollars enabling farmers to select the exempted property.
About 160 unemployed men seeking cash relief and public works were dispersed by Officer Sergt. Harry Goeggtein as they attempted to enter the chamber of commerce building in Lincoln. A special police squad then guarded the area while legislators and officials were entertained. In North Dakota Elmer Haryala faces third degree burglary charges linked to Webster Bank robbery and other thefts.

One hundred forty four ministers at the Southern Minnesota district pastoral conference of the Norwegian Lutheran church in America voted a resolution urging the Minnesota legislature to maintain strict dry enforcement. The action reflects unified opposition to any repeal of state dry laws.

South Dakota pardon board recommends reducing Arthur Clark’s sentence from 13 years and 4 months to ten years. Clark pleaded guilty in January 1923 as one of four men who robbed the Fort Pierre National Bank. Two co defendants have been released. one was killed by a bystander during the escape.
Paris January 26 Gov Moret at the Bank of Franca annual meeting denied reports that the bank liquidated its dollar holdings in autumn 1931 or aided the U S in withdrawing gold. He said the bank avoided intervention and abstained from disposing of its dollar reserves during the period of nervousness.
Miss Edith Mulvihill sues an express company for 400 dollars claiming facial perspiration is uneven after an on road collision. She testified that since the accident she sweats only on the right side of her face and not on the left.
Beadle County's four man delegation to the state legislature and IL E. Corey new state finance director will attend an open meeting tomorrow night at 8 p m to discuss the gross income tax measure. The meeting is sponsored by the Huron Chamber of Commerce legislative committee with other local groups and attended by Senator Earl P. Flower and Reps J T McCullen Burton Culver and Everett Curtis.
Aberdeen reports the Brown County farm bureau meeting with officers and members discussing state and national legislative and taxation issues. Mr Test urged three measures including refinancing farm mortgages at low interest rates and long terms, a commission to control farm surplus, and that money be the true measure of value.
A coalition including the Farmers Educational and Cooperative Union of America the National Grange the National Coal Association and the National Lumber Manufacturer's Association filed a plea with the Interstate Commerce Commission seeking reduced freight rates on basic commodities.
