Drivers License Law Drafted By Safety Council Panel
A South Dakota Safety Council legislative committee approved a driver s license bill after minor changes. Five members including R S Wallace M E Caffery and Tom Luby were chosen to carry the measure to Pierre for introduction. Giant airliner crashes near Lambert field killing two
A Trans-Continental & Western airliner en route from Los Angeles to New York crashed one mile from safety at Lambert-St Louis airport. Captain P T W Scott and passenger J F Mott were killed. 12 injured. The Sky Sleeper ripped a maple tree and a pole, then crashed in a farm yard. the plane did not burn. Emergency crews rushed six to one hospital and five to another.

South Dakotan on crew of missing bombing plane
Lieut. L. E. MacKay of Martin is reported as a crew member of the army bomber that disappeared a week ago from McChord Field Washington. No trace of the aircraft has been found. MacKay, called to active service recently from the reserve, had been living in Lincoln Nebraska where he studied as a medic student at the University of Nebraska. He planned to complete his studies after service and has a brother Zeno in Martin and two sisters in Nebraska.

Alleged Draft Evader Slain As Family Fights Officers
In Pontiac Illinois 22 year old farm youth Ernest Eisele died from wounds after resisting arrest on a draft evasion charge. His father Martin Eisele was critically wounded along with Deputy A S Marshal Eugene Ahrends and Chief Deputy Sheriff Robert Jones in a gun and knife melee at the farm. All four were hospitalized. The incident began when the officers arrived with a federal warrant for arrest over failure to register for selective service. The youths alleged defiant remark was reported by Assistant U S Attorney G R Kennedy.
