Weekly Farm Review from South Dakota Extension Service
The extension service advises culling nonlaying or low producing hens to boost meat and human food output. It notes that older flocks drop egg production 20 to 25 percent yearly and urges removal of small pullets doomed to poor performance. It also reports horticulture urging gardeners to buy seed early to ensure adaptable varieties, with county agents providing local performance data.
