Marvelous Music In The Great Waltz At Huron

Amusements in Huron review praises The Great Waltz starring Meliza Korjus and Luise Rainer with Fernand Gravet as the conflicted composer. Highlights include The Blue Danube and Vienna Woods polka as the score and performances receive high marks. The film runs three days at Huron Theatre beginning tomorrow with strong praise for Korjus’s singing.

Italian tenor to perform ten day mission at Wessington Springs

Mario Cappelli, premier Italian American tenor, will headline a ten day singing preaching mission at the Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. He will sing selections including Going Home and Ave Maria and deliver sermons such as The Shipwreck and The Gift of the Cross. Performances daily at 9 45 a m and 7 30 p m from January 18 to 25.

Elks Take City Whist Lead After Third Session

Elks and Knights of Pythias led the city whist league after the third session as the Elks topped the Legion 395 to 310 aided by borrowed K of C players. The Elks raised their season total to 1104 points, pushing the Legionnaires to second with 1669. Morrissey and Gleason led the Elks with 65 points. Beil and Kirby topped the Knights of Pythias with 67 in the K of P VFW match. The next session is Jan 24 with the Elks hosting.

Rites At Blunt For Alfred Wiedenman

Funeral services were held Tuesday in Blunt Presbyterian Church for Alfred Wiedenman 25 of Blunt born July 1913. He was educated there, lived in Artesian and Onida, served in the national guard and CCC, worked at a McKesson drug store in Omaha, died in St Marys hospital Pierre from a heart ailment. Survived by parents George and Mia Wiedenman sister Fernand younger brother Francis. Music by a quartet and pallbearers were former schoolmates Melvin Reinschmidt Alvin Junkman Richard Howard Morris Howard Harlow Howard Edward Perkins.

Stout Seeks Consolidation Of Agricultural Bodies

Annual C of C Stag Fest in Huron Tonight

The Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Good Fellowship stag at 8 p.m. in the Elks ballroom. Roy Miller will MC, with Elks chorus and the Huron American Legion drum and bugle corps performing. A big surprise is planned before the 10 o'clock Dutch lunch. Tickets are sold by Harry Gray.

Mr and Mrs Phil Bridenbaugh of Omaha arrived in St Lawrence on Sunday to be with Eva Bridenbaugh of Miller who is ill. The Bridenbaughs were called by the family illness and were met by local relatives.

Hormel Plans Joint Earnings Fund For Austin Workers

Hormel president Jay C. Hormel tests a joint earnings plan at the Austin plant. All Austin wages and profits would go into one fund, split 60 percent to employees and 20 percent to stockholders, with an 80-20 option if sufficient to cover weekly pay. After workers receive four extra weeks, remaining funds split 50-50 between stockholders and employees.
