Test Expect Changes In Ten Thousand Dollar Benefit Cap

Frederick S. D. Test, president of the South Dakota Farm Bureau Federation, predicted the American Farm Bureau Federation would seek to modify the Agricultural Adjustment Act limit of ten thousand dollars in benefits to one person. He said current limits bar farmers who rent land from large owners, and noted many state presidents favor excluding tenants from the cap when rent is 50 percent or less of crops. He forecast Congress would keep the AGA largely intact and that Test would attend a meeting of state Farm Bureau presidents.

Carson had been visiting her father Henry Martin in Edinburgh Texas. Pun boards and prices led to $10 fines for fourteen operators in Sioux Falls after police visits. all pleaded guilty.

Ruling sought on suspended sentence length in Rowe case

SIOUX FALLS January 11 Warden Nortan Jameson asked South Dakota Attorney General for guidance on how long a suspended sentence lasts for George Rowe of Watertown. Rowe was sentenced to a year and a half for forgery with six months suspended for good behavior. he was released after a year. The suspension was revoked January 6 1939 after alleged violations, raising questions whether suspended time hangs indefinitely or ends when the original term expires. Judge Vern G Wohlheter argued suspended time remains at the court's discretion and could be imposed if conditions are violated.

S D Supreme Court in Pierre heard three appeals. Brice Lewis of Santa Monica challenged Pennington County circuit court deeds involving 15000 dollars in real property with Bert Lewis Luce Tinsley and the Presbyterian Church of Rapid City as respondents. Annie and James Drysdale of Rapid City appeal a Pennington County circuit court injunction barring horses on a Rapid City barn with Irene Johnson as respondent. Fred M Sellers of Custer appeals a jury verdict awarding Abbie Bock of Custer 2500 dollars for injuries from a January 20 collision. Sellers and his late father are named in the record.
