New Natural Cave To Be Opened In Hills

Piedmont reports a new cave three miles south of town near Crystal cave will open this spring for visitors. The federal government owns the site and leases it to private operators. Geologists discovered it 35 years ago, and workers are enlarging and clearing it for exhibition. A cavern of jet black crystal is currently under repair.

Believe Mice Cause Of Timber Lake Fire

Timber Lake news reports a large farm house four miles east of Timber Lake destroyed by a fire thought to have been started by mice gnawing matches left in the vacant dwelling. The farm, owned by the South Dakota rural credits department after foreclosure, had been vacated by RE Quinn and family January 1. Investigators found no tracks near the site, reducing the likelihood of trampe or temporary shelter users as the cause. Quinn retained little personal property in the house.

Erection of New Brown County Jail Considered

Aberdeen Feb 27 Erection of a new Brown county jail is under consideration after condemnation of the present structure by Circuit Judge Van Buren Perry. After inspecting the jail building Judge Perry told the county commissioners in a letter that the structure is unfit for long term detention and for keeping desperate prisoners.

County to mull new jail plan under half mill levy

Judge Bouck and Judge Perry urged county commissioners to build a new jail citing design flaws and sanitation problems at the current facility. They proposed funding from a half mill levy and unexpended county funds, with action expected at the March meeting.
