Hitchcock Shows Out In Funds For State Institutions
R K Hitchcock of the Rapid City Daily Journal told the legislative appropriation committee that South Dakota higher education funding lags behind the state’s recovery. His 20 year study using 1923 as a base shows University funding at 55 percent, State College 58.4, School of Mines 70, and Northern State Teachers College 65, with only small restorations since. He cited similar underfunding at other normal schools and urged reconsideration of allocations.
