Pasture Plan Urged To Meet Spring Feed Needs
BROOKINGS Feb 75 Special A planned emergency pasture program this spring can yield abundant pasture from early spring to late fall with average moisture. R A Cave ex-dairyman at State College notes pasture costs are one third to one half of grain and hay. Rye and Sudan grass provide early and extended grazing, with fall rye ready soon after spring, and Sudan grass usable by July. The plan fits the Agricultural Conservation program by allocating emergency pasture acreage to complete soil conserving base and potential soil depleting excess if overallocated. Regulations offer 40 cents per acre for non-grazing non-crop plowable pasture, with fencing required to permit use of emergency crops while earning the incentive.
