Farmers To Increase Production Through Efficiency
South Dakota farmers plan to meet wartime demand for more food by efficiency and intensity rather than expanding acreage. Estimates show 40 percent more sows farrowing, 34 percent more hogs sold in 1942, and nearly 60,000 gardens. Flax acreage could rise to 470,000 acres, with other crops and livestock expanding to support war needs.
