Barley as Feed gains importance in South Dakota outlook
South Dakota’s 1929 Agriculture Outlook notes barley as a key feed crop as oats face low prices. Barley fits areas with increasing livestock production and limited cropland, offering higher feed yield and value. Oats production should be restricted where better yields exist, while barley competes for livestock feed and supports cropping systems.
