Frantz Explains Automobile Tax Plan in South Dakota
Pierre, Feb 21. Frantz outlines a proposed auto tax bill now before the senate. The plan would impose a 40 percent levy on all cars registered in the state based on factory price, with different rates for new and foreign cars and a limit preventing double taxation on the same vehicle. The tax would be collected by county officials and could bring in about one million dollars, with a required offset by reducing the general tax levy against real and personal property to stay within constitutional limits.

Corn price outlook dimmed by weaker demand and supplies
A South Dakota State College extension report cautions that 1927 corn prices likely won’t match 1926. Domestic and European demand are weaker, feed crops are short in Europe and southern states, hog numbers shrink, and horse and mule stocks drop. If Argentina and Europe yields are average, foreign demand may ease next winter with a larger U.S. crop possible in 1928.
