Lincoln funeral train recalled in New York Central run
An early 1900s recollection describes the Lincoln funeral train moving from New York to Utica with a coffin car and a sable engine, guards spiked switches to prevent tampering, and crowds lining the tracks, many weeping and waving flags as the cortege passed Syracuse and beyond. The engineer Wrightson piloted the train, the first Pullmans on the line, and the locomotive bore Lincoln’s portrait.
