Jailbreakers Escape From Beadle County Jail
No trace found today of two men who escaped Beadle County jail Saturday afternoon. Fugitives are BL Skinner, awaiting forgery trial, and Vern Newland, serving a 70 day sentence for forgery. Newland, trusted, secured a key and opened Skinner's cell. They walked out about 4 pm. Newland, 21, claimed youth to gain leniency. Skinner, mid thirties, 5 ft 10 in, grey hair, blue eyes, wore a brown mackintosh and overcoat. Sheriff Huntley and deputies pursue leads among friends in Huron. discovery came when sheriff’s daughter noticed Skinner missing.

A town council special meeting led to the arrest of four men Lloyd Miller Cecil Biehl Orville Biddie and William Yarosh on charges of torturing an animal by pouring gasoline on a dog and setting it afire. The dog wandered from a pool hall before being shot to end its suffering. Yarosh owns the pool hall. The men were released on $50 bonds amid tension and talk of an injunction to close the pool hall as a public nuisance. Maximum penalty is one year in jail and a $100 fine.
