State maps aim to lure tourists with bright four color chart
Pierre February 3 The 194y South Dakota highway map distributed today targets prospective visitors and aids in state travel. It features a four color cover showing the capitol Mount Rushmore and pheasants while internal images include Mitchell Corn Palace Big Stone Lake a Black Hills bridge and a Badlands road. The reverse highlights the Needles Drive Palisades of the Big Sioux River and a northeastern lake with a mileage chart linking 80 towns. The map emphasizes the entire secondary road system and lists land ownership ranges township numbers and drainage details in blue on white. Ralph O Neill redrew six months of drawings for the new design. Engraving by South Dakota Engraving Company and printing by Sessions Printing Company Sioux Falls.

N I Belwen head of FHA South Dakota reported 1,457 guaranteed loans in 1939 totaling 2,243,194 dollars. Of this, 334,894 funded property improvements and 1,908,300 financed new homes. Idle Hour Club Valentine Party in Tulare

Mitchell Farmer Believed to Die by Own Action
Mitchell county report states John Schuster, a bachelor farmer living eight miles west and two north of Mitchell, was found dead today in a bedroom at his farm home. Viscon County officers call the death "apparently death by own action" though investigation not complete. The body was found by his father Andrew Schuster, over 80, who lived with him on the farm for about 15 years.

Injured at Farm Runaway Hay Rack Accident
Henry Reber was injured last week at his Highmore farm when a runaway team caused a hay rack to overturn. Initial condition appeared not serious but later rib injuries were diagnosed by a local physician. He is recovering at home.

To Face Trial On Mann Act Charges
Donald White, 35, of Greenville Tennessee, bound over to federal district court in Sioux Falls on a Mann Act charge. In default of 5000 dollar bond, he was jailed in Davison County. Isabelle Farrell of Cleveland testified of White as the alleged father in a widely publicized Cleveland baby case connected to a Pittsburgh couple.

Leslie Nelson dies after yearlong illness
Leslie Nelson of Camp Township died early Sunday at St. Mary's hospital in Pierre after a year of illness with infection following pneumonia. Born October 19, 1908, in Bon Homme County, he leaves his wife and his parents of Parkston, plus sister Thelma and brother Winston. Funeral services led by Rev. Wager at the Congregational Church in Ree Heights. Burial followed in Morningside cemetery.

Injuries Fatal To Dell Rapids Farmer
Erick H. Oien, 60, a Dell Rapids area farmer, died in a Dell Rapids hospital from injuries suffered after being struck by a car on Highway 77 south of Dell Rapids ten days earlier. The driver, Andrew Christiansen of Dell Rapids, said he was blinded by opposing headlights. Oien is survived by a son Helmer and a daughter Gilma.
