Indians to Meet at Rapid City Next Summer

A council of American Indians is expected to draw thousands of delegates from central western and southwestern tribes to Rapid City from July 29 to August 3. Henry Standing Bear plans the conclave with Chief Calvin Coolidge invited to attend. The event will feature Custer’s Last Stand reenactments with Fort Meade cavalry, Sun Dance, dances, games, and wagon races as part of the frontier city celebrations. Government restrictions on Indians’ relocations are noted, and large delegations from Wyoming North Dakota and Oklahoma are anticipated.
