In Jersey City two people Ids Thomas 50 a maid and William Marx 24 a house boy suffocated during a three alarm blaze that damaged the Inquest hotel. Marx reportedly rushed door to door to alert guests before collapsing. Other staff and guests escaped as firemen battled the flames after a Christmas tree sparked the blaze. Nearby Life nets saved some.
