Dr Lyman E Jackson arrived in Brookings from Columbus Ohio to assume duties as the tenth president, marking the start of his tenure at New State College.
Dr Jackson formerly dean of the junior college of agriculture at Ohio State University will succeed Dr D H Lyman Jackson as vice president and dean of faculty at South Dakota State College. He hails from a farm in Oregon Wisconsin and holds degrees from Wisconsin and Minnesota. He has taught in Wisconsin and North Dakota and served at Ohio State and in Washington. He is a WWI veteran and co author of agricultural texts. Mrs Jackson is active in music and farm magazines. They have two children and drove from Columbus to Brookings.
Gettysburg reports a joint installation at Masonic Hall for Jonic lodge 83 A P B and A M and Vaneta chapter 43 O E S. Officers installed include Charles Miller as worshipful master and Emma Klein as matron with Pat McNeeley among patrons. Hewitt Turner and Alpha J Lake served as installing officers for the two bodies.
A successful Christmas Cantata was presented Friday evening by Esmond Sunday School and public school pupils. The program featured a 26 voice chorus including a women s sextet, a duet by Darrel Walker and Wilma Walls, and songs by primary room pupils. The event occurred in Esmond on December 24.
Readings were given by Erville Hammers, Lois Timm and LaJoy Clendening. The Nativity Scene was presented by Gene Hoege, Phyllis Westerberg, Lois Timm and Ellen Heitmann. The shepherd scene featured Maynard Hammers, Gordon Walker and Gordon Salter. The program was directed by Rev. A. R. Regan, Miss Elizabeth Dahl and Miss Anna Larson. Thursday evening there was no demonstration. music hour was led by Mrs. Eva DeHaven and Mrs. Robert Shea. stories were read by Mrs. Orval D. Seitz and Mrs. Claude Sutton, then gifts exchanged. Sixteen members attended. guests included Mrs. John Henniger and Mrs. Fred Holst. Lunch served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Eva De Haven. Marguerite Hultman chairs the group. Mrs. Elmer Monson hosted the Sunshine Mixers Demonstration Club at a Christmas party in Wessington on December 24. The gathering featured festive decor and shared refreshments as members planned year end activities.
