Forecast Strong Hog Market For The Winter

The December Rug situation report from the Bureau of Agricultural Economies foresees a strong hog market through winter into next year. Hog prices rose in early December despite large slaughter supplies, with November slaughter 23 percent above October and 77 percent above November 1925. Factors include better meat demand and packer storage demand, signaling higher livestock income though crop shortfalls pressured other sectors. Government payments fell in October 1936, but overall cash receipts rose due to higher marketings, aided by the new Agricultural Conservation Program payments of 3 million dollars.
