Old age benefits formula under new social security law

The new provisions define average wage as total wages reported by the employer divided by months in employment. It computes monthly benefits starting with 4 percent of the first $50 of average wage plus 10 percent of the next $200, plus 1 percent of the basic amount for each covered year. Example shows Jim Blank earning $108 monthly, retiring at age 65, with a benefit of $25.75. Information available from Clayton S. Brown, Social Security Board, 215 Post Office Building, Huron.
