South Dakota wildlife chief O H Johnson says the pheasant population is not at risk of starvation this winter despite a feed shortage across the state. The department will aid farmers and sportsmen in feeding efforts as weather improves the birds' foraging conditions. Wardens will monitor reports of starvation and check birds for feeding habits and condition.
Oklahoma voters rejected William H. Murray's legislative reform program in a special election. Early returns show margins against all four bills from 53 000 to 73 000 votes. Murray’s supporters predicted failure, while foes warned of a Murray dictatorship despite rural areas showing some favorable returns.
Two new entries were reported in the home grounds Christmas decoration contest. Floyd Rouse of 345 Ohio southwest and E Wintle of 819 Kansas southeast submitted their decorations. Park board officials urged more residents to register and noted several decorated homes had not yet entered. Judging will occur early next week to award merchandise prizes and a $5 sweepstakes prize.
The Huron Moose lodge will host a Christmas party for children Monday at 7:20 PM in Wheeler hall. Members’ children will perform a program directed by Mrs. Joe Sporer, with Charles Mattison chairing a candy and nuts distribution committee. A Christmas tree will stand in the hall for the event.
ML A Gay from Lanier County appeared at the Georgia State Prison Farm seeking the death cell before his Wednesday execution for the slaying of his son in law. Superintendent B H Dunaway and Sheriff O Spence were involved as staff directed him inside.
Despite generous donations to the American Legion relief drive, Associated Charities in Huron still needs men's overshoes rubbers blankets and underwear. Seventy five calls were made by Legionnaires for cast off clothing toys and food for distribution to the needy. The Associated Charities chairmen and the city federation of women's clubs appeal for more footwear including shoes stockings rubbers and overshoes and note repair shops have helped turning out 43 repaired pairs. Residents may donate by calling 5482 or 883.
In Deadwood a circuit court jury acquitted Arthur Powers of Belle Fourche of manslaughter and drunken driving in the June accident that killed Mrs. Florence Zend Capps of Alzada Montana. The defense argued a gravel ridge in the road caused the crash. The state alleged Powers’ intoxication led to the death.
A family of four perished in a blaze that destroyed their home yesterday. the third child Theodora aged three died in hospital and a fourth victim Eu reportedly died by noon while the parents, including Mrs Meronk, 21, were unable to be saved after rescuing the children.
Churches in Huron schedule Christmas pageants and plays next week. The Baptist, Presbyterian, American Lutheran, First Christian, Methodist, and other churches plan pageants and carols Sunday night and through Christmas Eve. Casts include Bethlehem, innkeeper, shepherds, rabbis, and angels with local students and clergy directing and providing music.
About 400 youngsters from needy families in Huron will be treated at the annual haircutting party organized by city barbers. After a trim each child will receive a half pound of candy. American Legion members provide free transportation. Children will gather at their schools and be conveyed to the K C hall. East of Dakota avenue pickups begin at 1 pm and west of the avenue at 2 pm.
Watertown Democrat Fred H. Hildebrandt indicated he may run for Congress in South Dakota’s newly formed first district. He has sought federal office multiple times and would campaign on a safe, sane platform if nominated. Current congressman Royal C. Johnson will not seek reelection as reapportionment shifts districts.
President Hoover selected Federal Judge John B. Sanborn of Minnesota for the Eighth Circuit bench after a dispute with Senator Schall over judicial appointments. Schall proposed Matt Jayca to replace Sanborn, while Gunnard Nordbye’s confirmation lingered and Joye’s future successor was discussed. If Sanborn is confirmed and Joyce succeeds him, Schall may ease opposition to Nordbye.
A petition seeking removal of five Dewey county officials will have action deferred until March. The report notes uncertainty as the petitioner’s stance and local responses remain unclear. Gene Starpe was seen visiting homes in Kennebec today, but officials could not determine if he smiled at complaints.
Norfolk Neb Dec 19 A 20 year old Tyler was shot and killed in a house outside the city limits owned by Frances West Police have arrested John Rayburn of Norfolk who confessed County Attorney Gari Peterson said the shooting followed a quarrel as several men and women in the house reportedly drank alcohol

Debate included accusations against President Hoover and concerns over European debt, with a study into foreign bond holdings launched by Senator Johnson.
Four men Marrell Livingston 24 Francis Weaver 20 William Bender 23 and George Johnston 31 were sentenced in circuit court to a combined 105 years for jail breaking and car theft tied to a recent break. Johnston and Bender received 5 and 4 years each plus Bender’s 20 year perjury count. They were taken to Sioux Falls after sentencing and transported earlier by authorities.
White House reassures Hoover that Baltimore and Ohio President Daniel Willard and rail leaders expect wage reductions to be settled peaceably. A 15 percent cut aims to save $200 million plus $10 million via the rail credit corporation, with Congress urged to approve the emergency pool. Leaders in Congress plan hearings through holidays as committees near a meeting to negotiate a conclusion within 30 days.

Theodore Lightner briefly replaced Bill Culbertson, and card luck favored Culbertson in the latest play, though Lenz warned of an eventual break in his favor.
Walter J. Bachman commander of the Hiren post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has been named to the national VFW committee on unemployment. The eight member panel will collect data on jobless numbers in each community and coordinate efforts with relief agencies to place men back to work.
