Icy Wave Brings Snow and Lows Across South Dakota

A cold Arctic air mass swept into Central South Dakota last night, dropping about an inch of snow and driving temperatures to 16 degrees below zero. By morning the sun broke through after more than a week of clouds, with forecasts calling for fair weather tonight and tomorrow. Several towns logged record lows, including Aberdeen at 19 below zero and Yankton at 10 below, while Watertown reported 21 below in the state’s coldest readings.

Funeral for local grocer Frank C Hocking dies in Huron

Frank C Hocking 250 Fitch Street Southwest died yesterday afternoon in a Huron hospital of pneumonia after a two week illness. Born April 12 1877 in Darlington Wisconsin he worked in mercantile business last seven or eight years as Park Grocery proprietor in North Huron. Burial in Darlington Friday afternoon. Survived by widow and two daughters Mrs R C Emmons Madison Wisconsin and Carol Hocking Huron. Active in Methodist church Rotary club and Masonic lodge.

Carolers to Cover Huron Tomorrow Evening

The city of Huron will be covered by Christmas carolers tomorrow night. Ida L. Iverson, music supervisor of Huron Public Schools, announces fifty groups from schools churches Girl Reserves and other groups will begin at 7 o clock. Candles on Nebraska and Ohio avenues should be lit at 830. Routes listed include Jefferson School groups starting at Lawn Ridge Beach Ave and other streets with both sides encouraged.

Rescue Efforts Persist After Fatal Mine Explosion

In McAlester Oklahoma 62 miners were trapped by an explosion at Old Town Coal, killing Frank Parker and injuring others. Rescue workers, hampered by gas and fire, retrieved 47 bodies by nine this morning while 12 were listed as missing.
