South Dakota to Study Changes in Game Laws
Pierre December 1741 At least two major changes in present South Dakota game laws are being considered for the 1935 legislature. O H Schnaon, director of the state game and fish department, said proposals would align migratory waterfowl rules with federal laws and extend the deer season. The Watertown meeting discussed these changes but took no action. final sponsor decisions come at January meeting. Current deer season runs Nov 1 to 20. proposed shifts place it in the last twenty days. Migratory waterfowl season remains Sept 16 to Dec 31 with a 15 duck bag limit, causing confusion with federal precedence. Proposals seek discretionary dates and bag limits to conform with federal rules. Also discussed were possible reductions in the $25 nonresident hunting license and a tourist or short-time fishing license. Numerous minor hunting and fishing law changes are expected.
