The Supreme Court in a 6 to 2 decision holding the Federal Power Commission can require Appalachian Electric Power Co to secure a federal license for its New River demand power projects near Radford Virginia. In Tacoma Washington 850 lumber workers returned to 12 mills under a temporary truce after AFL union members ratified a five cent an hour wage increase and one week paid vacation. Wisconsin Tax on Out-of-State Dividends Upheld

The U S Supreme Court ruled five to four that Wisconsin may tax dividends from out-of-state corporations doing business in the state. Justice Frankfurter delivered the opinion sustaining the levy on J C Penney Company. Justice Roberts dissented with Chief Justice Hughes McReynolds and Reed concurring. The Wisconsin court had previously held the tax unconstitutional.

Band Clinic Held At Huron Saturday

Band directors from 23 Central South Dakota high schools gathered in Huron for a band clinic and discussion of professional problems. The Huron High School band performed the demonstration numbers, with various guest conductors participating. The session focused on 1941 music contest selections, round table discussions, and a dinner at the Marvin Hughitt Hotel. Officers of the Central South Dakota Bandmasters Association were Duane Smith, Glen Shaw, and Eric Jungemann.

Mine Explosion Kills One Injures Several in Dixie King Mine

An early morning explosion at the Dixie King Coal Company mine north of LaFollette, Tennessee, left one miner dead and several others injured with burns and cuts. W. P. Kirkland, the undertaker in LaFollette, identified the deceased as a 44 year old man. Hospitalized workers suffered neck and facial burns. others received minor treatment for cuts and burns.
