Improved Feeding Tactics Boost Farm Production Effort
Beadle County farmers are urged to adapt winter feeding methods to convert abundant livestock feed into human food. With high feed supplies, production of meat, wool, milk and eggs can rise to meet wartime demand. One tankage pound can replace six to seven pounds of corn, speeding market readiness by twenty to twenty five days. Protein needs cited: hogs 16 to 17 percent, milk cows around 15 percent, laying hens about 18 percent. When feeding corn alone, protein shortfalls occur, but supplements like skim milk, soybean meal, linseed meal or tankage can balance the diet.
