Six Juniors Hit AP All America Grid Team
Six college juniors earned berths on the 15th annual Associated Press All-America football team as seniors filled the rest of the 33-man squad. Michigan star Tom Harmon led a standout junior group including Texas A&M’s Alex Kimbrough, North Carolina’s Paul Severin, Tulane’s Harvey McCollum, Cornell’s Nick Drakes, and Tennessee’s Edward Molinski. The selection highlights a noted shift with strong backfield talent and a mix of stars from the Middle West, South, and West, while traditional powerhouses faced tough competition from upstarts and injuries.

New York dispatch reports that District Attorney Dewey may investigate allegations of fixed fights made by Harry Thomas of Eagle Bend Minnesota. The New York State Athletic Commission referred the matter to Dewey after Thomas refused to testify without immunity. Arch Ward of the Chicago Tribune testified that Thomas claimed to have thrown his December 13 1937 bout with Max Schmeling and another with Tony Galento, with a witness ready to corroborate, though he would not name the witness to avoid breaching confidence.
