Witnesses Fail to Verbalize Belief in Drake Estate Swindle
CHICAGO December 7 officials reported no witness attestation for the Drake Estate fraud case after a three week probe against 41 defendants accused of using the myth to defraud. A weekend recess showed courts lacking sworn statements from investors who claimed to be swindled. In a federal motion, H M Drake of Los Angeles, linked to Sir Francis Drake lore, petitioned to record a share in the estate. He says he bought $3 of the estate in 1921, seeking 1.25 percent of proceeds. Several investors testified they were drawn to the promoters and sent funds to Chicago. Among those testifying were H Creear, Volin D, and others from Canton South Dakota, Balaton Minnesota, Clarion Iowa, Hatley Iowa, with varying sums invested.
