Newspaper Story To Be Probed By White House
Washington December 4 The White House confirms an investigation into a Tribune Chicago report claiming a confidential Army Navy Joint Board favored an American expeditionary force of 5 000 000 to attack Germany by July 14 1943 Early secretary says he has not seen the plans nor spoken with the President and notes two war planning branches in the War and Navy departments. He cautions any public release would be cautious and stresses the need to study all emergencies. The Tribune alleged a combined force of over 10 000 000 including Army Navy and Marine units and offensive plans in Europe and Africa. Early says he has not viewed such plans and the President has not been consulted. The matter prompts a stated intent to probe and review war plans in peacetime.
