SALT LAKE CITY December 3 Five high school girls remain critically injured after a Thursday train bus crash that has claimed 23 lives. Bela Beckstead 15 South Jordan and Anne Webb 16 Riverton are sinking. Two others are in very poor condition. Three other victims are less seriously injured and eight survivors recover at home. Twenty one pupils of South Jordan High School died with bus driver Farrold A Silcox 29. The bus was struck during a snow storm by the Flying Ute express freight train of Denver and Rio Grande Western. Flags at half staff as four mass funerals are planned in Latter Day Saints church wards. Separate services for children and adults will be held. Probes by railroad, school authorities, county attorney and Utah Public Service Commission. Interstate Commerce Commission investigators expected from Washington.

Two men Frank Weldon and Angus Galbraith rode in a truck that broke through Rainy Lake ice and sank to thirty feet. Weldon forced open a door and escaped. Galbraith escaped through a window. Both reached surface, climbed to safety, walked six miles to International Falls, and survived exposure due to mild temperatures.
