Bottleneck in Livestock Shipping With Surplus Hogs and Cattle
American farmers raise 12 million more hogs 2 million more sheep and 3 million more cattle than a year ago while rail cars and packing plants lag. Experts warn of a fall bottleneck as stock cars shrink from 85 000 in 1924 to 53 000 in 1941 and yards deteriorate. McDonald urges early hog readiness and coordinated shipping, with larger farm pickups and advance listing with agents to ease the jam.
