Urge Seeding Pastures Now on South Dakota Farms
Prof Yorrest A Fenn of South Dakota State College warns that seeding rye winter wheat or rape on farms now after rains will yield rapid lush pastures this fall and help stock through winter. Frost hardy crops reduce winter feed needs and lessen dust storms, with rye and wheat also providing early spring green feed. Milk cows should avoid rape as it flavors milk. pasture crops replenish vitamins and minerals.
