Beadle County officials proposed a 3 percent cut. attorney general notes such offers to electors amount to bribery. The opinion states reductions cannot be used to trim budgets or taxes. Officers may donate post salary, but not alter obligations.

South Dakota Gets $150,000 Relief Loan Amid Unemployment

Washington August 3 The U S construction corporation loaned 150000 to South Dakota and 50000 to Minot and Ward county North Dakota for relieffunding. The governor will use the money to aid eight counties Pennington Custer Beadle Sanborn Kingsbury Spink Clark and McCook where relief will focus on employment creation for the unemployed. The relief committee will distribute funds only in dire need and where employment can be provided.

Drum Corps Play At Nearby Towns Today

Huron hosts a state championship event by the American Legion Auxiliary with the drum and bugle corps performing at Gala Day in Miner County's Howard. The women debut this afternoon and drill with Dight White, then the corps appears in Wessington tonight. Men's drill is a Chamber of Commerce feature. transport provided by local volunteers.

Amelia Earhart Putnam landed at Newark airport at 10 28 p m completing a five transcontinental non stop flight by a woman. She taxied the Lockheed Vega to a three point landing greeted by Lieut Richard Aldgorth, port manager. The unofficial time was 18 hours 2 minutes, beating no man in the west east record by Frank Hawks 17 hours 38 minutes 56 seconds.

Grafters Warned Over Fire Extinguisher Inspections

South Dakotans face a fraud warning after reports a man posing as a deputy state fire marshal was charging 30 cents for extinguisher inspections in Feulkton and Loaey. The real fire marshal, C R Hoeswill, says only deputy marshals may inspect extinguishers and no fee is standard. Authorities will pursue the impersonator if located.

A W-year-old boy who admitted burglarizing a service station was allowed by Superior Judge L. N. Turrentine to fix his own sentence. He sentenced himself to perfect school attendance and deportment for one year, regular homework, living with his parents, limited weekly outings, church and Sunday school activities, and large probation reports.

Miners Retire After Gunfire In Labor Clash

Benton Tennessee August 5. Defeated miners and wounded marchers faded to scattered groups as about 0 deputy sheriffs halted the invasion labeled the greatest labor march in US history. Nearly a hundred miners bore bruises and six were treated for injuries. Civilians fled in autos and trucks, gunfire shattered windshields and parts of the caravan. Adjutant General Bleck reported the miners’ army of occupation demobilized and retreating north toward Mulkeytown, with officers warning of possible further trouble.

Hutchinsons Stop At Lonely Island

To Let Highway Work Next Month

Bids have been invited for several highway projects including 12 miles of paving 6 miles of grading 80 miles of graveling 31 miles of gravel resurfacing and 69000 feet of parade rail. Paving runs at Mitchell and between Bronx Falls and Dell Rapids with two miles of construction from the Country Club for the Mitchell project. The Sioux Falls Dell Rapids projects total about ten miles and aim to close a gap in Federal Highway 77 pavement.

Teporia forecast tail wind and clear weather miles out as the fliers aimed to cover about 3150 miles to Gale. They carried extra fuel to stay aloft seven hours beyond planned time. Only two trucks of produce passed after John Lammers allowed drivers through with a pledge not to return to produce. Wheat prices rise as traders ignore bearish crop news

In Chicago wheat futures climbed two cents, buoyed by securities markets, with December contracts leading gains to about 5 6 cents.
