Crop reports show yields as high as sixty to sixty five bushels an acre in many fields, with barley poorer in quality. Wheat in the western county yields ten to fifteen bushels per acre. Farm board anxiety confirmed as farmers may sacrifice oats and barley to pay threshing costs and risk selling stock to continue farming.

Prospects Dimming for Corn Crops in Bancroft and Hyde County
In Bancroft and Hyde County reports, corn stands are largely underdeveloped with ears only partly filled. Rain is seen as insufficient to salvage yields, hog cholera is widespread, and farmers shift to using wheat, rye, and barley for fattening. Harvests progress slowly as fields face heat and drought, yet some acres show green fodder potential with recent rain.
Farm Weather Report and Storm Damage Near Holabird
A storm brought hail and 46 inch rainfall near town with damage to a grain field ten miles northeast and a farm house south of Holabird struck by lightning, destroying the building though the Olson family escaped. Threshing largely finishes by early next week with top wheat yields around 25 bushels per acre, averaging 12 to 16, while oats and barley yields are disappointing. Corn suffers from drought but cooler weather may lift fall yields.

Immature corn silage discussed for feeding and famine
Immature corn silage may be cut before frost and stored for later use. It could provide cheaper weight gains as partly developed ears offer feed value. Nearby reports note near completion of grain combining in Sully county, with hay cut and stacked for winter feed and stock in good condition for fattening.
