Origin of New Jersey Junior Breeders Fund
The Junior Breeders Fund began in 1929 when Senator Frelinghuysen and Julius Forstmann provided initial loans to Jersey 4 H members to buy purebred stock. The fund, run by the State Board of Agriculture, grew to support pigs, chickens, turkey loans, feed, and baby beef purchases, with 1,782 loans totaling 128713 dollars over nearly two decades. It helped youths build herds, gain livestock knowledge, and assume future farming leadership.
