Offer Exchange In Tariff Preferences Between Canada and Britain
Ottawa officials proposed a concrete exchange of tariff preferences with Great Britain during August 4 to 7. The plan envisions a wider spread of preferences and could lift Canadian imports of British goods by about 200 million dollars annually. Canada would reciprocate in roughly the same amount, covering iron and steel, anthracite coal, automobiles, electrical supplies, brass products, and certain textiles and leather goods. Last year Canada bought 200 million dollars of iron and steel, mainly from the United States, with only about 10 percent from Britain.
