World War Veteran Dies In Nebraska

Lawrence Cross world war veteran and Abernathy Post American Legion member died from sunstroke on a Nebraska farm. Burial occurred in Kimball beside his Civil War veteran father, with Crips Post Kimball in charge of the military funeral. A Gann Valley post representative attended. A surviving brother in the U S Navy sent funeral instructions, noting the man spent most of his life in Bridle and Buffalo counties.

Boy Confesses to Stealing Money From Office

In Sioux Falls an 11 year old boy admitted taking 13 dollars from an office this week. He said the theft funded his mother’s going to shows. The boy, who sells ice cream bars during daily rounds, entered an unoccupied office and took the money. an employee caught him the next day after the confession.

Two Face Trial For Killing Of Farmer

Lake Andes August 4 P A James Varilekm and Frank Souleck two Lake Andes youths will face trial for murder in the November term of circuit court over the death of farmer John Struka from injuries after a Saturday night quarrel. The men are jailed with bond set at 2500 before Judge A B Bock.

Rain Ends Drought Boosts Groton Farmers

A drought lasting several weeks broke with about half an inch of rain in Groton. The moisture aided garden crops and pastures while corn remains stunted from heat and drought, producing little more than fodder. Grasshoppers damaged many fields, though some escaped the insects.

Buffalo county reports anthrax among Herman Geppert’s cattle herd of about 1000 head. Two head died before vaccination finished as Knippling brothers vaccinate 650 head and L C Garvin vaccinates 20 head.
