Carriers To Cancel Tariff Provisions In Dakota
Pierre Aug 1 Railroads serving South Dakota and other western states plan to cancel tariff provisions that would add 5 cents per shipment on all less than carload lots and abandon raising the minimum from 30 to 50 cents. The move follows objections from the state railroad board and shipping interests. Reduced rates on store supply basis for small shipments, including fresh meat and other packing House products, are already in effect to meet truck competition. These rates cover most LCL shipments from major jobbing centers to territory within 1590 miles.
