Cairo Egypt April 30 report says forty one dead and many injured when a hot box on a third class coach ignited the Cairo Alexandria express. Panic and deaths followed as passengers jumped from speeding cars and the engine was signaled to stop after flames consumed three more coaches.
King Prajadhipok of Siam travels to Baltimore for an eye examination by Dr William Holland Wilmer after brief tests in New York and a dental and throat check in Washington. He will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws from George Washington University before hosting President Hoover at tea. The king’s party reports cataract involvement in both pupils.
Miss Mary Sweet of Iroquois died suddenly from apoplexy at her home after a two week illness. A man and wife called Tuesday night seeking a room. she directed them upstairs and later collapsed. She remained unconscious until her death Wednesday afternoon. Funeral arrangements not set.
Sioux Falls placed first in the first annual high school one-act play contest at the University of South Dakota with Confessional by Oscar Wilde. Volin took second for The Stepmother by A A Milne. Vermillion beat Canton Geddes Waubsey and Free man in preliminaries as opponents were drawn by lot. In finals the four schools competed in a direct tournament.

CHICAGO April 30 prohibition agents investigated a flower shop marked Florist where they found Clarence Edwin using a pipe system to supply alcohol to customers. Edwin was detained for further hearing by a United States commissioner awaiting explanation.
R L Nordness reports attractive plans in Virgil Wolsey and Broadland for National Music Week May 3 9. Huron college quartet will sing and a speaker from Huron College will address Virgil under the PTA. 25 piece high school band will perform. Programs in Wolsey Broadland and other towns highlight instrumental and vocal selections as pastors and educators coordinate events. Nordness continues touring Wessington Hitchcock Yale Bon Harm Cavour and Sheffield to assist in arrangements.
Two aviators in navigation training for a world girdling flight departed Jacksonville for Miami in the 2500 mile New York to Porto Rico leg. Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon jr were accompanied by Captain Lewis E. Yancey who teaches Herndon navigation. They flew nine hours to reach Miami and will proceed to the West Indies with an overnight in Cuba before a San Juan stop and return to New York.
H M Cass managing director of the South Dakota Public Health association will travel from Huron to Syracuse New York for the annual convention of the National Tuberculosis Association starting soon. He will also participate in the national conference of tuberculosis association secretaries held concurrently. Cass serves as vice president of the latter group. Both conventions run until May 13. Also noted is an Amsterdam Holland report on rubber producers forming an association seeking production curtailment and higher prices.
Eight boys and girls from Gente at South Dakota, members of the Young Citizens league, won free trips to the State Y. C. L. convention in Pierre opening tomorrow. Nearly 1,000 leaguers expected for two days. Winners include Alta Elvink, Marjorie Hansen, Mavis Paterson, Buford Clisbi, and others. The trips honor league news writing and delegates will attend sessions.
In Moody county Minnie Lutz and others seek to prove they are rightful heirs of Louis Nelson who died in 1918 leaving an estate valued at 108000 dollars that went to the state after five years with no claimant. They contend their mother Anna Nelson Peterson was Louis Nelsons sister and sole heir. A 1929 law extended heirship proof time from five to ten years and the case is set for trial this week in court here.
Brookings hosts the annual district music contest at State college with 32 schools expected by Friday. Solo events run today with glee clubs chorus band and orchestra to follow. results list top plays including Cor net Edward Lee Wolgs first and Soprano Iva Shelp Brookings first. Six Huron students compete after receding from prelims with Mildred Trish Bernice Bowers and others.
