Fred Burke Gets Life For Slaying Of Patrolman Skelly
Fred Burke was sentenced to life imprisonment in Michigan for the December 1929 slaying of Patrolman Charles Skelly of St. Joseph. Circuit Judge Charles E. White noted Burke’s intoxication and lack of full faculties at the time. Burke pleaded guilty, was taken to the Marquette prison, and a heavy courtroom guard accompanied the proceedings. Burke was captured in Missouri and was brought back for sentencing.
