Hungarian Land Gift Plan For Tax Debtors Raised
Budapest reports a government program to transfer 15 000 acres of land to impoverished landlords as tax relief with 2000 peasants expected to receive about ten acres each by autumn. Minister Nicholas Kallay will present the plan to parliament and a May Budapest fair will award prizes for land division and building ideas. The state holds 5 000 acres from postwar reform and may extend the scheme to allow peasants to buy land from large holders with the state as guarantor.
